Here’s why I love music.

Sometimes, when you hear a song for the first time, you don’t just hear it. You devour it, taking it in, but anxiously waiting to hear every next sound, too, like your mouth is open underneath a waterfall and you’re catching everything you can but still missing so much. You already know you love it before you can really comprehend it. So you listen to it over and over and over again. Louder, louder, louder. Can’t get enough. It hits you a little differently each time, but still with so much anticipation because it’s not exactly familiar yet. It’s just so, so right. Do you guys know what I mean? I don’t know if everyone feels it. Maybe it’s because I’m not the most musically inclined, so the combinations of sounds and words and voices can sometimes just bring me to my knees.

It’s one of my favorite feelings in the entire world. So much so, in fact, that knowing it’s a feeling I’ll be able to experience over and over for the rest of my life, no matter my age or the state of my life, is actually a beautiful and amazing thing.

The Lumineers’ new song, Ophelia, did this to me. The piano!!! And the entire album, Cleopatra, is so, so good. I just had to share it with you guys in case you're unfamiliar.

And while we’re on the topic, I also thought I'd share my current indie/folk playlist on Spotify for a similar vibe and sound (which naturally includes some of my new favorites from the Lumineers).

I plan to share what I'm currently listening to in a regular series going forward, and I'd love to hear from you guys about your favorite stuff, as well! Please comment accordingly!!
